On September 29, 2015, the Honorable Minister of Human Resource Development launched the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), which the MHRD had approved. This framework provides a mechanism for classifying educational institutions all around the country. The technique uses the overall recommendations and broad understanding reached by a Core Committee established by MHRD to identify the basic criteria for ranking different colleges and institutions. Depending on their expertise, the NIRF Ranking 2023 list changes for different categories. The parameters cover Teaching, Learning, and Resources, Research and Professional Practices, Graduation Outcomes, Outreach and Inclusivity, and Perception.

NIRF Ranking 2023: Ranking Parameters

Based on five main parameters, the MHRD provides a NIRF Ranking to each institution of higher education in the country. All institutions use the same methods to maintain a comparable level of competition. Weightage is assigned against each parameter, and the final NIRF ranking is compiled. The rankings are determined by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), which is based on the following 5 factors:

• Teaching and Learning Resources (TLR).
• Graduation Outcome (GO).
• Perception (PR).
• Outreach and Inclusivity (OI).
• Research and Professional Practice (RP).
