Bhutan is the smallest country that neighbours India, with an area of only 38,394 km square. It is a landlocked country, meaning that it is surrounded by land on every side. Bhutan is located in the Eastern Himalayas between India and China. Although Nepal and Bangladesh are situated near Bhutan, the countries do not share a border.
Being India’s smallest neighbour, Bhutan still maintains strong military and economic relations with India. In 2007, the Indo-Bhutan Treaty was revised to state Bhutan’s independence and sovereignty clearly.

The smallest neighbouring country of India is Bhutan. Being a landlocked country, Bhutan maintains good relations with its neighbours. The common Buddhist heritage makes India and Bhutan’s relations strong. According to an agreement between both countries, the citizens of Bhutan and India may travel to the other country without a passport or visa. Bhutanese citizens are also allowed to work in India without any legal restrictions.
