(A) Inertia governor

(B) Flywheel governor

(C) Centrifugal Governor

(D) None of these

The Porter governor is an example of centrifugal governor. Porter governors are gravity-controlled centrifugal governors that are dead weight loaded. It differs slightly from the Watt governor but else is identical. The Watt governor transforms into a porter governor when a substantial centre load is fastened to its sleeve.

Types-of-governors

Types of Governors

Governors are classified as: (1) Inertia Governor and (2) Centrifugal Governor. We have explained the different types of Governors below.

Centrifugal Governors are classified as:

  • Dead Weight Governors: (1) Proell governor and (2) Porter governor
  • Spring controlled governors: (1) Hartung governor (2) Hartnell governor and (3) Pickering governor

Construction of porter governor

Because the two balls are pivoting at the top, they can move up and down on a vertical spindle when the spindle’s speed changes. The middle sleeve is joined to the lower links. The vertical sleeve can oscillate up and down with the movements of the ball. To prevent the sleeve from moving too much, the spindle has two stoppers. The core load of the sleeve is very heavy. The governor’s sleeve is attached to a device that opens the throttle valve.

Summary:

The Porter governor is an example of ________? (A) Inertia governor (B) Flywheel governor (C) Centrifugal Governor (D) None of these

An illustration of a centrifugal governor is the Porter governor. Porter governors are dead weight-loaded, gravity-controlled centrifugal governors. The only significant difference between it and the Watt governor is its size.
