Recently in the news 104th, the Constitution Amendment act has extended the reservation of seats for SCs and STs in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies from Seventy years to Eighty years. The upper house passed it on 10 Dec 2022 and assented to 21 January 2020.
What is 104th Constitution Amendment?
- The 104th Constitution Amendment Act (CAA) eliminated the reserved seats for the Anglo-Indian community from the Lok Sabha and state assembly, as well as increased the reservation of seats for SCs and STs from 70 to 80 years.
- The 103rd CAA has granted EWS a 10% reservation, at the most.
- The National Commission for Backward Classes now has constitutional status thanks to the 102nd CAA (NCBC).
- The Goods and Services Tax was instituted by the 101st CAA (GST).
