Faraday’s law of electrolysis is related to the Equivalent weight of the electrolyte. The link between the amount of electricity passed and the amount of material created at the electrodes is provided by Faraday’s laws of electrolysis.
Faraday’s First Law of Electrolysis
The amount of material that deposits or is released at an electrolyte is directly inversely proportional to the amount of electricity that flows through it.

Where ‘I’ is the current passed through the electrolyte in ‘t’ seconds of time, ‘w’ is the weight of the substance getting deposited at an electrode and ‘z’ is the proportionality constant known as electrochemical equivalent.
Faraday’s second law of electrolysis
- The masses of various compounds that are deposited or released when the same amount of energy is transmitted through various electrolytes are directly proportional to their equivalent weights.
- Assume that when the same amount of voltage is applied to the distinct electrolytes A and B, the amounts of substances that are deposited are wA and wB and the weights of EA and EB are equivalent.
- WA/WB = EA/EB
