What are Unisexual and Bisexual Flowers? Give Two Examples of Each

Unisexual flowers have only male and female parts of reproduction such as papaya, cucumber whereas bisexual flowers have both male and female parts of reproduction such as lily, sunflower.
Flower:
- Angiosperms have reproductive structures called flowers (flowering plants).
- Bisexual or unisexual are both viable options.
Unisexual flower:
- Unisexual flowers are those that only include stamens or carpels, the male or female reproductive organs.
- Cucumber, papaya, pumpkin, and bitter gourd are some examples of unisexual flowers.
Bisexual flower:
- The flower that has both male and female reproductive organs is known as a bisexual flower because it has both stamens and carpels.
- The hibiscus, lily, mustard, rose, and sunflower are some examples of bisexual flowers.
Functions of a Flower
- In the blooms, gametophytes are formed.
- Diaspores can be produced by the flowers without fertilisation.
- The flower’s ovary grows into a fruit with a seed after fertilisation.
- The reproduction of flowers is their primary purpose. They assist in fusing male and female gametes together.
- Flowers feed insects and some birds nectar, which aids in the movement of pollen from one flower to another.
- Flowers can encourage cross-fertilization, which is the union of sperm and eggs from other flowers, or selfing, which is the union of sperm and eggs from the same flower.
