1. Best Film Award at 19th Shanghai International Film Festival – Kannada Movie Thithi won two awards – Best Film and Best Script Writers – under the Asia New Talent Awards Category at the 19th Shanghai International Film Festival. Raam Reddy is the director of the film.
- Note: In 63rd National Film Awards, it won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Kannada.
2. 2016 PEN Pinter Prize – Canadian poet, novelist and environmental activist Margaret Atwood was conferred with the 2016 PEN Pinter Prize.
Note:
- The PEN Pinter Prize is an annual literary award launched in 2009 by English PEN.
- It was launched in honour of the late Nobel Literature Prize-winning playwright Harold Pinter.
3. President Pranab Mukherjee honoured with highest civilian Award of Ivory Coast – President Pranab Mukherjee on 14 June 2016 was accorded with Grand Cross National Order of the Republic of Cote D’Ivoirie in a simple ceremony at the President’s Palace in Abidjan. It is the highest civilian award of Ivory Coast.
4. 2016 International DUBLIN Literary Award – American author Akhil Sharma won the 2016 International DUBLIN Literary Award for his novel Family Life.
- Note: The book Family Life tells the story of eight-year-old Ajay, whose family move from Delhi to America in 1978.
5. UN Chief Ban Ki-Moon honoured with Russia’s Order of Friendship Award – Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree awarding the Order of Friendship to United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon
6. A.R Rahman conferred with Japan’s Fukuoka prize 2016.
7. Scholastic Asian Book Award – Indian author Aditi Krishna kumar won
8. Indian-American Rishi Nair wins 28th annual National Geographic Bee Competition.
9. Sunil Bharti Mittal receives this year’s Harvard Alumni award.
10. Japan’s highest civilian honours – N. K. Singh former bureaucrat honoured with “The Orders of the Rising Sun”, one of Japan’s highest civilian honours, as announced by the Govt. of Japan.
11. Man Booker Prize for 2016 – South Korean author Han Kang won the Man Booker Prize for 2016 for her novel ‘The Vegetarian’.
12. A four minute documentary film ‘Beti’ which is a non-fiction on girl child education has been invited for a special screening at the 42nd Seattle International Film Festival (SIFF), Washington DC. The movie is directed by Shivain Arora.
13. Indian artist, Anjali Chandrashekar wins award at UN poster contest on N-disarmament.
14. Indian Institute Science Professor Sriram Ramaswamy became Royal Society Fellow.
15. India Author Prashar Kulkarni won the Commonwealth Short Story Prize – 2016, for the Asia region for his politically grounded fiction Cow and Company.
16. Singer Angelique Kidjo wins human rights award.
17. Lhakpa becomes first woman to climb Everest seventh time – Nepalese woman Lhakpa Sherpa, breaks own record to climb Everest a seventh time.
18. Swiss government honours Yash Chopra with statue.
19. Indian American Revathi Balakrishnan named as 2016 Texas Elementary Teacher of the Year.
20. Priyanka Chopra bags a slot in 10 Millennial Leaders Around the Globe list.
21. Mongolia confers highest honour to two Indians Award: Lokesh Chandra aqnd Mansura Haider
