What do you understand by the term of E-marketing?

  • E-marketing is a process in which the product and services are marketed with the help of the internet. It involves all the business activities like planning, distribution, promotion and pricing of the product and services in a systematic and computerised way.
  • E-marketing is commonly known as Internet marketing, web marketing, digital marketing and online marketing. It helps to connect business to their customers throughout the world. E-marketing provides a global platform to its users. It is based on digital technologies like desktop computers, mobile phones and other digital technologies.

Advantages of E-marketing:

  1. Target the ultimate customers: E-marketing targets ultimate customers. It provides all business facilities to its customers just on one click.
  2. Increases sales revenue: E-marketing increases the revenue of the company. Traditional marketing requires lots of effort, while online marketing is less time consuming and easy to operate.
  3. Reduces marketing cost: Traditional marketing involves huge operational cost, but in the case of e-marketing, it reduces marketing costs. (Promotion of goods, inventory goods, distribution of goods etc.)
  4. Global reach: Online marketing helps in flourishing business throughout the world by helping in exchange of goods and services from one country to another. The globalisation of business will give a competitive edge to the company to sell their goods and services in any part of the world.
  5. Achievement of goals: E-marketing is helpful in the achievement of goals efficiently and effectively. It improves the efficiency of the employees and motivates them to target their goals.
  6. Measurable in nature: Business entrepreneurs measure all the factors of marketing like detailed illustrated sales and many more.

Disadvantages of E-marketing:

  1. Security issues: E-marketing records all the essential information about the goods and services. It must be compulsory to secure the data to prevent hacking, scams, lack of privacy security issues. It is the limitation of E-marketing.
  2. Dependency on E-marketing: E-marketing totally depends upon technology. Without the internet, digital technologies like desktops computers, mobile phones E-marketing cannot establish their roots in the business era.
  3. Critical updates: Softwares, hardware, data recorded, everything has to be updated on a regular basis. These updates are complex in nature. It involves huge operational costs.
  4. Huge cost involved: Transaction costs, advertising, promotion of goods and services, operational costs required huge capital. It is an expensive affair.
  5. Hire skilled manpower: E-marketing can be done only by skilled manpower who can change with the change in technology. Unskilled manpower cannot perform the business activities due to lack of knowledge, skills and resistance to change.

Types of E-marketing:

  1. Email marketing: Email marketing is a process in which a commercial message or mail is sent to potential customers by using email. For example, Rahul is running an e-commerce store of clothes. He has posted a 60% discount on his products on Facebook. Later on, he found that only 5% of his followers have seen the post. So he sent an email regarding heavy discounts on clothes to each and every one of his followers. This helped him in increasing the sales and earnings sufficient profits.
  2. Content marketing: Content marketing is a marketing technique in which online material is created, published, and relevant information is provided with the users. It doesn’t involve the promotion of brands. It is basically required to avail relevant and reliable information to potential users. For example:
