Madras University Ph.D. Notification 2020:Check Eligibility, Apply Online & Other Details

Madras University has invited application for its January 2021 PhD programme. PhD notification is released by the university of madras twice a year. First in June and second in December. Online filling of application form begins on 1 December and will go till 31 December. Interested candidates can apply online through the University of Madras website. Admission portal will remain open for a specified period only. Madras University offers M.Phil. and PhD degree under Full Time, Part Time mode. The online application for the January 2021 session alone will be accepted and another mode of applications will not be considered for admission under any circumstances. After filling the application form candidates have to submit the hard copy to respective departments or affiliated college before 31.12.2020.

Eligibility for PhD in Madras University
- Candidates who have completed the pattern of Study 10+2+3+2 (or) 11+1+3+2 are eligible for admission to do PhD. Programme.
- Candidates must have completed a Master’s degree with 55 % marks.
- Candidates belonging to SC/ST category have been a relaxation of 5 %.
- If the candidates have obtained M.Phil degree through correspondence or distance mode before 3 April 2009, then the candidate will be considered as eligible for PhD.
- If the candidates have qualified UGC NET/ CSIR NET/Gate, then, they are exempted from Entrance Test.
- Regular teachers of affiliated college with a minimum of four years of continuous teaching experience after Post-graduation are eligible to register for PhD (Part-time) Programme
Procedure for Admission in Madras University
- Madras University will conduct the entrance test for selecting candidates for PhD.
- The entrance test will be conducted by the respective Department / College /Institution.
The entrance test shall carry a maximum of 50 marks as detailed below.

- 50% of marks shall be taken from the qualifying examination (PG or equivalent) secured by the candidate.
- The candidate should secure at least 25 marks out of 50 marks in the entrance test (Written and Oral).
- The candidate should take the examination only in the subject for which he/she has applied for admission to the PhD programme.
- Entrance test syllabus will consist of 50% Research Methodology and 50% of the specific subject of PhD. Degree.
- If the candidates have qualified UGC NET/ CSIR NET/Gate, then, they are exempted from Entrance Test.

- Candidates have to visit Madras University website for applying online.
- Candidates now have click on ‘Apply Now’.
- After confirming the eligibility criteria, candidates now have to proceed forward.
- Candidates now have to register as a new user.
- Candidates then have to fill the detailed application form and complete the payment.
