RAC has released the DRDO selection process 2022 for the post of Scientist B in the notification brochure. Candidates are advised to go through the complete DRDO selection process 2022 before filling out the application form. In the selection process, various stages depending upon the candidate's discipline.

Candidates are selected for the DRDO recruitment process based on their GATE score. Candidates must possess a valid GATE score to participate in the selection process. Here we will discuss each stage of the DRDO selection process 2022 in detail in the coming sections.

What is DRDO Selection Process 2022?

The DRDO selection process 2022 is simple since shortlisting of candidates is based on their GATE score and required aggregate in the essential qualification. Candidates with valid GATE scores can enrol themselves on the recruitment process. The candidates are shortlisted first and then they will be able to take part in the various stages of the selection procedure. The DRDO selection process consists of the following three stages:

  • Stage I - Written test (if applicable)
  • Stage II - Interview
  • Stage III - Final Merit List

DRDO Screening Process

The shortlisting of the candidates is done in two parts, i.e., Part-I and Part-II. Part-I carries three disciplines:

  • Electronics & Communication Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Computer Science Engineering

whereas Part-II carries 14 disciplines:

Candidates belonging to Part-I can be further divided into two categories i.e., category I and II. Category I is for the candidates who have cleared essential qualifications from any centrally accepted university with a valid GATE score. Category II is for candidates with an essential qualification from IITs or NITs with a valid GATE score. 

Candidates belonging to Part I will be called for a written test where the shortlisting of the candidates belonging to category-I will be on the ratio of 1:25. The candidates will be called as per their categorical merit list. 

The shortlisting of the candidates belonging to category II will be directly done if they have cleared 80% minimum aggregated marks criteria.

DRDO Selection Process 2022 - Written Test

The candidates in Part I are called in for the written test. The category-wise merit list of the candidates is rolled out based on the GATE score of the candidates. The ratio of 1:25 is followed to call in the candidates for the written test if the seats are available in their categorical merit list. 

Candidates in Part- II of the distribution won't have to undergo a written test. They are directly called in for an interview session. 

Details of Descriptive Examination

  • The Written Examination will be a Descriptive Type Exam consisting of two papers of 300 marks each. It will be conducted in two sessions. Each session will be for 3 hours. 
  • The syllabus of the Descriptive Examination is similar to the syllabus of the Engineering Services Examination (Main) of the respective discipline conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). Candidates can download the syllabus from the official RAC website.
  • The Descriptive Examination will be organized offline, i.e., in paper-based format.
  • The Descriptive Examination will be tentatively organized at DRDO centres in seven cities and other common centres if the need arises. Cities are Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kanpur, Kolkata, and Pune.
  • Candidates must specify their preference of examination centre in the online application form among the listed centres.

DRDO Selection Process 2022 - Interview Session

Candidates belonging to Part- I are called in for an Interview session after they are selected on the merit list. The selection of the candidates in the merit list will be done in 1:5, depending upon the seats available as per the candidate's category. 

The candidates belonging to Part- II will be directly called in for the Interview session based on their GATE score. Candidates will be shortlisted in the ratio of 1:5 as per their categorical list. The consideration of the interview marks will be 20% in the final merit list.

DRDO Selection Process 2022 - Final Merit List

The final merit list of the selected candidates for the DRDO selection process 2022 will be rolled out after the interview sessions. The basic consideration of the weightage of the marks scored in both rounds is taken. 80% of weightage is given to the written test and 20% to the interview test to the candidates belonging to Part I of the distribution. For the candidates who belong to part II, 80% of consideration will give to the GATE score and 20% to the marks in the interview session. 

Candidates belonging to the PwD (HH), PwD (LD), PwD (AAV), and PwD (Dw) categories will be shortlisted directly for interview sessions irrespective of the course they completed the graduation. According to the DRDO selection process 2022, it is essential to know that candidates in the UR category must score 70% marks, and candidates in EWS, OBC, SC, and ST categories will have to score at least 60% marks in the interview session to be considered for the final merit list.

  • Yes, in order to be considered for the recruitment process of DRDO Scientist B it is essential to have a valid GAtE score. A valid GATE score is used for shortlisting the candidates. 

  • To get selected as DRDO Scientist B candidates are required to register for the recruitment process based on their GATE score. After registering candidates will be called based on their GATE score and the branch they belong to. They are called in for a written test or interview session and on successfully completing the process are recruited as Scientist B.
