GATE 2016 Mechanical Engineering Overall Paper Analysis & Expected Cutoff

GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) 2016 Mechanical Engineering Exam Set 1,2 & 3 Paper was conducted on 30& 31th Jan, 2016. Through this post we will be covering the overall analysis of GATE 2016 Electronics & Communication paper.

Overall Analysis of GATE ME Papers

  • Technical Subjects: Easy, Moderate
  • Multiple Choice Questions: Easy
  • Numerical Type Questions: Formula based and tricky
  • Paper 1 and Paper 3 were easier, Paper 2 was lengthy.
  • Many numerical type questions came in all the three sets.
  • Expected marks for topper after normalization is 70 Marks
  • General aptitude section is easy and moderate in all papers
  • Mathematics is having easy, moderate and difficult questions in all papers

Overall expected weightage of marks in all three papers

GATE ME 2016: Jan-30 (Forenoon) Paper Analysis

– Paper was moderate and tricky

– Many Numerical Answer Type questions were asked

– General Aptitude portion wasd easy

– Mathematics questions are moderate (Questions asked from gauss seidal , Newton Raphson )

– Theory of Machines & Vibrations: velocity analysis

– Many questions were asked from Fluid Mechanics, Engineering Mechanics and Heat transfer.

– Strength of materials and Theory of machines are having easy and moderate questions

– No questions are asked from RAC and IC engine, Material science.

– TOM questions are based on slider crank and vibration and damping

– Many questions are asked from thermal sciences.

GATE ME 2016: Jan-30 (Afternoon) Paper Analysis

– This paper is Tough paper among three sets

– General aptitude questions are moderate and difficult

– Many numerical type questions were asked (More than 25 questions)

– Theory of machine questions are asked less in this paper.

– Mathematics questions are lengthy and time consuming

– Heat transfer questions were easy

– Maths section was quite hard. More Questions from thermodynamic compared to others

– Machine design questions are very less

– Many of 2 Mark questions are asked difficult

– Many were Formula based questions

– Fluid mechanics, manufacturing science and thermal science questions were less compared to other papers.

GATE ME 2016: Jan-31 (Forenoon) Paper Analysis

– Paper was easier than other two papers

– Similar to other paper many Numerical type questions were asked in the paper

– More number of questions was asked from thermodynamics and Heat transfer

– General Aptitude portion was very easy.

– Mathematics questions was also easy to moderate (questions were asked from limits, Eigen vector, Laplace)

– Theory of Machines & Vibrations: Questions were asked from mechanism, balancing, gear & rest)

– All technical questions were easy and moderate.

– Easy questions were asked from theory of machines and manufacturing.

Overall the paper was of moderate difficulty level and the cutoff is expected to be around28-29 marks.
