DFCCIL Roles and Responsibilities

DFCCIL has been designated by the Government of India as a ‘special purpose vehicle’, and has been created to undertake planning & development, mobilization of financial resources, and construction, maintenance, and operation of the Dedicated Freight Corridors.

Currently, DFCCIL is working on two corridors, Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor and Western Dedicated Freight Corridor. Upgrading of transportation technology, increase in productivity, and reduction in unit transportation cost are the focus areas for the project.

Western Dedicated Freight Corridor stretches from Jawaharlal Nehru Port in Mumbai, Maharashtra to Dadri in Uttar Pradesh and Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor stretches from Ludhiana in Punjab to Dankuni in West Bengal.

Future Projects

A Golden Quadrilateral Freight Corridor will be established and it will have 6 DFCs. Currently, two of these are under construction. It is envisioned to build eco-friendly DFCs to help DFCCIL claim carbon credits with the use of leap-frog technology and make the routes fully automated fast and least accident-prone zones.

Training After Selection in DFCCIL

There is a three-month training in Pune. In the first month, there is a foundation course. In the second month, you have field training in the unit that has been allotted to you. In the third month, there is training again in Pune based on a technical course. After this three-month training, there is an MCQ-based test. After clearing that test, you get a field posting. 

Allocation of Posting in Unit

Allocation of Unit of field is decided on the basis of the top three preferences chosen by the candidate and the rank in the examination. As currently, two DFCs are under work, Western DFC has units like Jaipur, Ajmer, Mumbai, etc. Eastern DFC has Units like Kolkata, Mughal Sarai, Prayag Raj, etc.

DFCCIL Job Roles and Responsibilities of Junior Engineers & Executive Engineers

1. Construction of ROBs ( Road Over Bridge ): You are in charge of a ROB. You have 100% responsibility for your field from its quantity to its quality. You have to maintain registers, running bills, ensure utility shifting and have public dealing as well. You get a pooled quota vehicle to go to the job locations.

2. Construction of Section Track: A 40-50 Km track is under your supervision. Currently, it is under contract with L&T and PMC. You closely monitor the working of PMC in the projects for the construction of sound railway tracks.

Working Hours

The working hours on weekdays are 09:30 AM to 05:30 PM and Saturday is a half-day.


The Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Indian Railways which has the responsibility to undertake planning, development, and mobilization of financial resources and construction, maintenance, and operation of the “Dedicated Freight Corridors” (DFC).

It will enable the Government of India in various schemes, such as Industrial corridor, Startup India, Make in India, Standup India, Bharatmala, Sagarmala, BharatNet, Digital India, UDAN-RCS.

Why was DFCCIL established?

It was decided to have a dedicated organization for the planning, financing, construction, and operation of dedicated rail freight corridors. These corridors were announced after India and Japan collaboration was announced to fund these projects.
