NDA OIR Test
The NDA SSB OIR Test is a general intelligence test for an aspirant which checks his or her average intelligence & time management completely. The Day 1 Screening test of the NDA SSB Interview consists of OIR, i.e., Officer Intelligence Rating-test and PPDT, i.e., Picture Perception & Discussion Test respectively.
OIR Test for NDA SSB Interview
The OIR test is the day 1 Screening test of the NDA SSB interview which is categorized into two rounds: Verbal Reasoning Test & Non-Verbal Reasoning Test. The merit is created based on the aspirant’s performance in both tests.
- OIR test comprises two booklets: Verbal reasoning and Non-Verbal reasoning.
- Booklet 1 of verbal reasoning consists of 30 to 50 questions.
- The time allotted for Booklet 1 is 17 to 20 minutes.
- After completion of Booklet 1, another Booklet is provided.
- Booklet 2 of non-verbal reasoning consists of 30 to 50 questions.
- The time allotted for Booklet 2 is 17 to 20 minutes.

How to Prepare for OIR Test in SSB?
The common misapprehension about the OIR test is that it did not get much weightage when compared to the PPDT in assessment. The aspirant has to solve questions in less time. Aspirants have to at least clear this exam with the minimum cut-off marks no matter how well their PPDT has gone. The following are some tips to prepare for the OIR test in SSB:
- Self-Practice: There are no circumvent or shortcuts when it comes to Officer Intelligence Rating-test preparation, one has to go through the syllabus & pick the topics one by one and begin preparing for it, the more an aspirant practices on the topics the better his or her performance will be. The questions asked in OIR Test are very basic & can be mastered with a little bit of routine self-practice.
- Prepare from Books: Various publishers are available which give NDA SSB interview-related books or special books for the OIR test preparation are also available. For example, A Modern Approach to Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning by RS Agarwal can be used to prepare for the OIR test.
- Group Activity: Nowadays, it is possible via the internet to find or form a group of people with a common interest. One can also do something like that using social networks or any other medium and exchange knowledge with fellow ‘NDA SSBians’.
- Understand different types of Verbal & Non-verbal Tests: These particular tests check a candidate’s logical & intelligence ability and what it requires, is one’s inborn intelligence & keen observance to solve the question, and once he or she understands the logic of a question it is a very soft cake for one to eat.
Significance of the SSB OIR Syllabus
Most of the aspirants think that the OIR test is an easy-go-lucky test, and gives more significance to the PPDT. But surprisingly the joint merit of the OIR test and PPDT decides whether he or she is going to be screened or not. In case one has scored more than 90 percent on the OIR test candidate can consider oneself screened in.
- If an aspirant has a good OIR score then definitely he or she will get an upper edge during the conference results.
- The OIR tests have a lot of substance, not only in the screening but in the overall merit score too. Furthermore, the OIR score of the selected aspirant is sent to the respective academy & Ministry of Defence. The OIR is also considered by Special agencies such as R&AW while the induction process.
