National Defence Academy (NDA) & Naval Academy (NA) Exam

NDA & NA Exam is also conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) twice a year. 1) How can a girl Join Indian Army after Graduation?

Answer: For women, it is compulsory for you to be a graduate to apply. The various ways in which women can join the Indian Army in 2018 after graduation can be classified into 3 categories: UPSC, Non-UPSC and Technical Entries.

2) Can a married woman join the Indian Army?

Candidate must be unmarried female and a citizen of India fewer exceptions as given below. Married Candidates: (i) Women who are widowed, divorced or legally separated are also eligible provided they do not have any children. Such widows even with children will be, however, eligible only if they have not remarried.

3) Can women join the Navy?

Answer: Yes, women can join the Indian Navy after pursuing BE/B.Tech degree.

4) Can I prepare to give the NDA exam after 10?

Answer: You must start preparing for NDA exam after class 10th but you will be eligible to appear only after passing class 12th.

  • NDA NA is National Defence Academy and Naval Academy Examination. It is conducted for recruitment of candidates in the Army, Air Force, and Navy services of India.

  • Unmarried Male candidates who have passed 12th Class or are awaiting for their 12th Results are eligible to apply for NDA.

  • The written Exam for NDA is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) while the SSB Interviews are conducted by the various Services Selection Boards of the Defence.

  • The NDA SSB Interview is conducted for a period of 5 days.

  • No. The age limit to apply for NDA NA is 16.5 years - 19.5 years.

  • No, women candidates are not eligible to apply for NDA. However, they can apply for Combined Defence Services (CDS) which is after Graduation.

  • Permanent tattoos are allowed only on the inner face of the forearm, and on the reverse side of the palm/back (dorsal) side of hand. Certain tribes where tattoos are compulsory as per their custom and traditions will also be permitted.

  • Yes, you can apply. However, you must bring your original mark sheets while appearing for the SSB Interview.

  • NDA Exam is held twice in a year with the names being NDA 1 and NDA 2. NDA 1 is conducted in April while NDA 2 is conducted in September.

  • After the completion of NDA Training period, you will be awarded degrees from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. The following degrees will be awarded as per the defence branch chosen by you:

    • Naval Cadets - B. Tech Degree
    • Air Force Cadets - B. Tech Degree/ B.Sc/B.Sc (Computer)
