1. Perpendicular offsets
2. Oblique offsets
3. Parallel offsets
4. Both (a) and (b)

Offsets may be both perpendicular offsets and oblique offsets. Offset is a distance measured perpendicularly from either sides of the chain line that is moving in a specific direction. Locating objects that are close to the main survey line is the goal of offset.

### Perpendicular Offset and Oblique Offset

Since the chain line in the situation goes north-south, any offset must be taken to the right of the North-South direction, or to the east side, or to the left of the North-South direction, or to the west side.

They are of two kinds – perpendicular offset and oblique offset

Perpendicular Offset: If the lateral measurements are perpendicular to the chain line.

It can be taken in the ways here:

i) By swinging a tape to establish a perpendicular.

ii) By making a right angle with a 3: 4: 5 ratio.

iii) Using a triangular or building square to create a right angle.

iv) By using a optical square or cross staff to create a straight angle.

Oblique Offset: An offset that isn’t parallel to the chain line is referred to as being oblique. These photos are obtained when the items are difficulty to set proper angle or far away from the chain line. The measurements and challenges are greater than with perpendicular offsets.

Summary:-

## Offsets May be – 1. perpendicular offsets 2. oblique offsets 3. parallel offsets 4. Both (1) and (2)

Offset can be perpendicular and oblique. It is the distance we get perpendicular from either side which moves in a specific direction
