The Difference Between MAC Addresses and IP Addresses is that a MAC address is a six-byte hexadecimal address, whereas an IP address is either a four- or sixteen-byte address. Both the MAC and IP Address assist in uniquely defining a device on the internet. The Network Interface Controller (NIC) Card’s Manufacturer provides the MAC Address, while the Internet Service Provider(ISP) provides IP Address.
A connecting device’s IP address helps recognize a network’s connection. The MAC Address ensures the physical location of a computer or device and Helps identify a given device on the available network.
