GATE CSE refers to the GATE exam conducted for Computer Science Engineering discipline. The GATE exam for CSE covers various topics related to computer science and information technology, including programming, algorithms, data structures, computer organization and architecture, theory of computation, operating systems, databases, computer networks, software engineering, and other related fields.

IISc Bangalore is conducting the 2024 exam of GATE CSE. The 2023 session of the GATE CSE exam was successfully condcuted by IIT Kanpur for all candidates in the forenoon shift. The GATE CSE exam follows the set pattern by the officials, and questions in the exam are based on the prescribed syllabus only. The application process for GATE CSE 2024 is not started yet. The candidates will be allowed to apply online for the GATE CSE exam only through the GOAPS official website by filling in the required details and uploading their documents. How to Apply Online for GATE Computer Science?

Aspirants have to apply for the exam through the online portal only.   • Visit the official website of IISc Bangalore.
  • Register on the website using your Full Name, a valid e-mail address, mobile number, and a password of your choice.

  • Upload the scanned documents, photograph, and signature as per the specifications.
  • Pay the required application fee and submit your final application.

Eligibility Criteria for GATE CSE Exam

GATE CSE eligibility criteria 2024 will be released by IISc Bangalore. It usually includes details about the education qualification, age limit, number of attempts allowed, and nationality criteria for eligibility. In the last sesssnion of the examination, as per the official notification, new changes were made to the GATE CSE eligibility criteria. Check out the basic condictions which canididates must have to sit for the exam:

  • An applicant studying in the 3rd or higher year of any UG degree is eligible to appear for the GATE CSE examination.
  • Also, candidates who have completed any degree program in Engineering / Technology / Architecture / Science / Commerce / Arts are eligible to apply.
  • There is no restriction on nationality for the examination. Candidates of any nationality can opt for the exam and choose their centers accordingly.
  • There is no upper age limit to appear for the examination.
  • There is no age limit to apply for the exam. Candidates from any group can apply for the examination.

GATE CSE Exam Pattern

It is essential to understand the GATE CSE exam pattern and selection process for the effective exam planning. GATE CSE exam pattern will be released soon. The GATE CSE is a Computer Based Test (CBT) consisting of three kinds of questions: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ), Multiple Select Questions (MSQ), and Numerical Answer Type (NAT) Questions. The duration of the exam will be 180 minutes. The details of exam pattern are given below:

GATE CSE Syllabus

The GATE CSE syllabus consists of topics from Engineering Mathematics and nine sections of Computer Science Engineering, namely, Digital Logic, Computer Organization & Architecture, Programming & Data Structures, Algorithms, Theory of Computation, Compiler Design, Operating Systems, Databases, and Computer Networks. GATE CSE Admit Card

The exam conducting authority will release the GATE CSE 2024 Admit Card on January 2024. The official date is not released yet. Thus, the candidates who applies successfully for the exam will be able to download the admit card from the official GOAPS website or the official site of the exam conducting body by entering the application ID and password to download the admit card.

GATE CSE Answer Key 2023

IIT Kanpur will release the official answer key of GATE CSE 2023 on 21 February 2023 after the successful execution of the exam. Candidates who took the exam can download the answer key by logging in to the GOAPS portal and entering their Enrollment ID / Email Address and password to download GATE CSE answer key.

The authorities will also provide the response sheet and question paper to check the answer key. Candidates will be allowed to object by paying Rs. 500 per question if they find an answer to be incorrect, along with valid proof of the correct answer.


GATE CSE result will be declared on the official GOAPS portal on March 2024. The result will be made on the basis of the final answer key for the exam. Candidates can view their results by entering their Enrolment ID or registered Email ID and GOAPS password.

The GATE CSE result will contain scores, qualifying marks, All India Rank and more. Based on this result, candidates will be able to take admissions to the M.Tech courses and get offers for various PSU recruitments.

GATE CSE Scorecard 2024

After the declaration of the GATE CSE result, the authorities will release the scorecard on March 2024 on the GOAPS portal. The scorecard will be released only for those candidates who will obtain marks higher than the minimum cut off marks in the exam. To download the GATE CSE scorecard, candidates need to visit the GOAPS site and enter their login credentials. The scorecard comprises the marks obtained, All India rank, normalized score, and candidate details.


GATE CSE counseling is the last step of the exam where the candidates are allotted admissions through COAP. The counseling will take place for allotment of seats as per the GATE rank to the candidate after qualifying for the exam. There will be rounds as per the availability of seats for the allocation of the candidates.

Candidates will be able to “Accept and Freeze”, “Retain and Wait”, “Reject and Wait” and “Reject” for seat allotment. The GATE CSE counseling will be conducted by IIT Delhi for GATE-qualified candidates to get offers from PSUs or choose Master's program institutes.   • As per the conducting authority, there is no minimum or maximum age limit eligibility criteria to apply for GATE Computer Science Engineering exam. Candidates can enroll and appear in the exam whenever they want if they fulfill other guidlines.

  • No, there is no limit in the number of attempts for the students willing to apply for the GATE CSE examination. Candidates can enroll and appear in the exam as many times as they want.

  • The validity of the GATE Computer Science Engineering scorecard 2024 is 3 years. Hence, if candidates have qualified in the 2024 exam, they are eligible for M. Tech admissions for the next three years after the declaration of the results.

  • The GATE CSE counseling registration 2024 will be open in the last week of March 2024. After the declaration of the GATE CSE 2024 result, students will be allowed to register on the portal. The counseling process will be conducted by IIT Delhi this year and includes steps for registration, fee payment, and document verification.

  • According to the conducting authority IISc Bangalore, the GATE CSE result 2024 will be declared on 16 March 2024(tentative). The qualifying candidates will receive the GATE scorecard which will remain valid for three years. The result will contain information regarding obtained marks, qualifying marks, and the All India Rank of the candidate.

  • According to the GATE CS syllabus 2024, the topics are divided into ten sections namely, Engineering Mathematics, Digital Logic, Computer Organization and Architecture, Programming and Data Structures, Algorithms, Theory of Computation, Compiler Design, Operating System, Databases and Computer Networks.

  • Yes, as per the opportunities available after the GATE exam, CSE is one of the best branches to apply for the exam.   • Yes, the GATE CSE exam will have negative marking but only for the MCQ-based questions. For NAT and MSQ based questions, there is no negative marking attached to them. For MCQ-based questions, 1/3rd of the allotted mark will be deducted from the total marks of the candidate.

  • GATE CSE exam each year is conducted by 7 IITs(Bombay, Delhi, Kanpur, Guwahati, Kharagpur, Madras, and Roorkee) + IISc Bangalore. The 2024 session of the GATE CSE exam will be conducted by IISc Bangalore. The GATE exam 2023 was conducted by IIT Kanpur.
