UPSC ESE Exam: Overview
Students who have completed their graduation in the technical field i.e. engineering field get a chance to work with the Indian government through the UPSC ESE exam. After qualifying all phases of the ESE exam candidates will get a chance to work in government departments such as PWD, Power, Telecommunication, etc. At the initial stage, candidates get recruited as assistant engineers and then gradually they move up to higher positions.
It is considered one of the toughest government exams to breach. The willing students prepare for years to clear this examination. The preparation required a lot of focus and hard work. UPSC Conducts this exam for the following engineering streams:

UPSC ESE mains exam pattern is described below, candidates should know the detailed exam pattern before appearing in the examination.

- There are 2 Papers in the IES Mains exam
- Both tests are conducted offline i.e. using pen and paper
- The question in both Paper 1 and Paper 2 of mains are from a chosen discipline (Mechanical/Civil/Electrical/Electronics & Telecommunication)
- Both Papers are conventional.
- Applicants who qualify for these two papers are called for the third stage i.e., the Interview.
- The candidates who score high in both prelims and mains are called for an Interview.
- The Interview is carried out for 200 marks.
- The final merit list of the ESE examination is prepared after merging the scores of all three stages i.e. Prelims, Mains, and Interview.
