The Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India and coordinated by the National Centre for Cell Sciences (NCCS) provides fellowship to meritorious students who are interested in pursuing research in Biotechnology through the “DBT - JRF Programme”. DBT JRF Selection Procedure

DBT BET JRF exam commonly known as the DBT JRF exam is conducted by the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology, Govt. of India for biotechnology candidates who want to pursue a Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) after they complete M.SC or post-graduation.

Applicants who are successful at the exam are granted the DBT biotechnology fellowship. After qualifying for the DBT JRF exam candidates are entitled to the fellowship amount or research contingency. To promote the research work the government provides fellowship for meritorious candidates. The government helps candidates to continue the research work. 

Latest DBT JRF Exam Pattern 2022

Candidates preparing for the DBT-JRF 2022 exam can check the exam pattern below. The exam paper of DBT JRF is divided into 2 sections, one for general subjects and another for specific Biotechnology.

  • The DBT JRF BET 2022 exam will have 200 questions, but the candidate will need to answer 100 questions only.
  • Each question carries 3 marks, which means that the total number of marks for the exam is 300 points.
  • The duration of the DBT JRF exam is 180 minutes (3 hours).
  • There will be a negative marking also for each incorrect answer.

General Aptitude

Part A consists of 50 general science, analytical, and quantitative questions, and all these questions are compulsory. Check the DBT-JRF General Aptitude syllabus mentioned below:

DBT JRF Exam Exam Pattern FAQs

  • The DBT JRF 2022 exam pattern is one of the simplest to remember and understand. The exam has 200 questions in two sections. The first section has 50 questions which are compulsory for all the candidates. The second section has 150 questions out of which only 50 have to be attempted. Candidates need to attempt 100 questions out of 200 questions in DBT JRF Exam.

  • The Department of Biotechnology has kept marking schemes simple like the exam pattern. Each question will be of 3 marks. For each right answer, the aspirant will get +3 marks and for each wrong answer, there is a -ve marking of 1/3 mark of that question i.e, -1 mark.

  • The selection process of DBT JRF involves a single-stage exam. The exam is conducted on a single day all over the country. Candidates who qualify the exam will be awarded a DBT JRF BET fellowship.

  • Yes, the exam pattern for category 1 and category 2 is similar for the DBT JRF exam. Category-I candidates are eligible to avail fellowship under the program meet any University/Institute in India, where the selected candidate registers for Ph.D. Program while the Category-II candidates are eligible to be appointed in any DBT sponsored project and avail fellowship from the project equivalent to NET/GATE.

  • DBT JRF is conducted only once a year by the Department of Biotechnology. The department may skip the exam in any year.
