Interested candidates must check the upper DBT JRF Age Limit before applying for the exam. General category candidates' age must be between 18 and 28 years. Age relaxation is applicable for the candidates of the reserved category. Age relaxation for different types is given below.

DBT JRF Educational Qualification

Candidates applying for DBT JRF must have completed their postgraduate on or before the cut date mentioned in the notification. Candidates in their final year are also eligible for the exam provided they have documented before the said date. The DBT JRF education qualification is shared below:

  • M.Sc./ M.Tech./ M.V.Sc. or equivalent degree from a recognized university in one Biotechnology, Agriculture Biotechnology, Environmental Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, Animal/Veterinary Biotechnology, Medical Biotechnology, Marine Biotechnology, Industrial Biotechnology, Food Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Computational biology, etc. discipline.
  • Integrated BS and M.S. or B.E./ B.Tech in Biotechnology (4-year course after 12th)
  • Aspirants admitted under DBT Postgraduate Teaching Programs or M.Sc. in Bioscience, Life Science, Botany, Zoology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Biophysics.
  • M.Sc./M.Tech.Bioinformatics Computational Biology.

DBT JRF Number of Attempts

The candidates interested in filling out the DBT JRF application form should acknowledge that there is a maximum of 3 attempts to qualify for the exam. Any candidate who has already made three attempts to prepare for the exam is not eligible to provide the exam for the 4th time.

Work Experience Requirement for DBT JRF

No prior work experience is required to be eligible for the DBT JRF Exam. Candidates who are otherwise eligible for the exam can apply for the exam without any experience. After checking the eligibility, candidates must check the DBT JRF syllabus for preparation.

DBT JRF Eligibility - Nationality

To be eligible for the DBT JRF exam candidate must be a citizen of India. Any citizen of the union of States can apply for the Fellowship exam on the official portal. The candidates must have valid identity proof of nationality.

DBT JRF Marks Required

There is a minimum percentage requirement for the DBT JRF exam. The department has prescribed the % requirement for each category below.

  • The minimum percentage required for the General, EWS & OBC categories is 60%.
  • The minimum percentage required for SC/ST/ Differently abled person is 55% in aggregate (or equivalent grade)

  • The applicant should be below the age of 28 years for the General and EWS categories. The age relaxation is applicable for the scheduled classes. The period is 33 years for SC/ST/PH category on the notification date. Candidates with 60% for General and OBC and 55% for SC/ST/PH are only eligible for the DBT JRF Exam.

  • The candidates must be 18 to 28 years old to satisfy the DBT JRF age limit. For reserved categories, age relaxation is applicable as per government guidelines.
