GATE Civil Exam Pattern 2022

Knowing the GATE Civil exam pattern 2022 will be very beneficial for the candidates as it will help in planning out the best strategy. GATE CE exam is one of the most talked-about exams among the students. Candidates belonging to the civil engineering field can apply for GATE CE 2022. Candidates can streamline and shape their entire preparation the best by knowing the updated exam pattern which will ensure to give the best results.

GATE CE Exam Pattern will tell you about the updated exam trend that will be followed this year. Along with that, it will also highlight the different sections and subjects on which the candidates will be assessed comprehensively. Different sections will carry different marks. The three subjects that the candidates will be assessed on are general aptitude, engineering mathematics and Civil engineering subject questions. 

  • There will be three types of questions that will be observed in the exam which are: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ), Multiple Select Questions (MSQs)​ and Numerical Answer Type (NAT)
  • Marks will not be deducted for any wrong attempt for NAT questions
  • There are three parts in the GATE CE paper which are General Aptitude, Engineering Mathematics, and Subject-specific part (Civil Engineering).
  • 72% weightage is given to the Civil Engineering section, 15%, to General Aptitude, and 13% to Engineering Mathematics in GATE CE 2022 Exam.

GATE CE 2022 Total Number of Sections in the Exam

GATE CE 2022 will have three different sections:

The weightage of different sections will be different. The details are as follows:

  • General Aptitude carrying 15% of the total marks, Engineering Mathematics carrying 13% of the total marks, and Civil Engineering Subject Questions carrying 72% of the total marks.

GATE CE 2022 Time Duration and Marks Details

  • The total marks in GATE CE are 100
  • The total number of questions in GATE CE Paper is 65.
  • The duration of GATE CE is of 3-hours
  • It is a computer-based paper.
  • The language of the GATE CE exam is English.

GATE Civil 2022 Marking Scheme

  • There will be some MCQ questions caring 1 mark. So for each incorrect response for the MCQ question, 1/3rd mark will be deducted.
  • Two-third of marks will be deducted for every wrong response in the  MCQ question that carries 2 marks.
  • No marks will be given nor any marks will be deducted for questions that the candidates do not attempt.
  • Wrong answers in Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions will not lead to any penalty.
