GATE CE Total Number of Sections

According to the latest GATE exam pattern for Civil Engineering, there are a total of 3 sections in the examination. The GATE CE 2023 will have three different sections:

72% weightage is given to the Civil Engineering section, 15% to General Aptitude, and 13% to Engineering Mathematics in GATE CE 2023 Exam. There will be three types of questions that will be observed in the exam which are: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), Multiple Select Questions (MSQs)​ and Numerical Answer Types (NATs).

  • As per the GATE exam pattern for CE, the duration of the exam is 3 hours. A total of 2.76 mins per question is allotted to the candidates in the exam. Candidates will have to answer the questions in the exam within this time limit. No extra time is allotted on the exam day. 

  • As per the GATE exam pattern for the CE, candidates will receive the questions in one language only. The language of the GATE CE exam 2023 is English. 

  • No, there is no negative marking for MSQs and NATs in GATE CE 2023. Only the MCQ-based questions will carry the negative marking if answered wrong. 1/3 marks will be deducted if answered MCQ question wrong.
