Plateau Between the Aravali and the Vindhya Ranges
The plateau that lies between the Aravali and Vindhya ranges is the Malwa plateau. 'Malwa' is a term derived from the Sanskrit word 'malav', meaning part of the abode of goddess Lakshmi. The Malwa plateau is surrounded by Bundelkhand upland to the north, the Vindhya Range to the east and south, and the Gujarat Plains to the west. The Muslims conquered the Malwa plateau in 1390 CE, and in 1817, it passed to the British.
