Explain in brief about Bhabar, Bhangar, Khadar and Terai Tract

Bhabar, Bhangar, Khadar, and Terai Tract: Bhabar is a landform filled with similar types of loose rocks, stones, and rubble. Bhangar is a type of landform composed of clay and sand, Khadar is a landform formed by alluvial deposits, and Terai areas are mostly marshy. There were land and low-lying areas. All these five types of landforms are found in the Himalayan region. All of them have their own distinctive features and characteristics.

Bhabar, Bhangar, Khadar and Terai Tract

The Great Northern Plains are divided into five parts: Bhabar, Bhangar, Khadar, and Terai plains. Bhabar Landform is perfect for hiking and trekking. Due to the presence of moisture in the soil, the Bhangar landform is suitable for cultivation.

Due to the presence of alluvial soil, Khadar plains are ideal for raising livestock. Terai tract is suitable for tourism activities due to its attractive landscape.

Characteristics of Bhabar, Bhangar, Khadar and Terai Tract

The characteristics of the Bhabar, Bhangar, Khadar, and Terai tracts are as follows:

  • The Bhabar landform lies mainly to the south of the Shivaliks from Jammu to Assam and is considered ideal for trekking and hiking purposes.
  • The Bhangar landform is considered suitable for farming as it is mainly composed of sand and clay, which retain moisture.
  • Khadar landforms have alluvial soil, which makes them suitable for animal husbandry.
  • Terai land is suitable for tourism activities.
