Who was the Last Nawab of Bengal?

The Last Nawab of Bengal was Mansur Ali Khan. He ruled Bengal from 1838 to 1881. Hassan Ali Mirza, his eldest son, succeeded the last nawab. Hassan Ali Mirza was the first Nawab of Murshidabad. Murshid Quli Khan was the first Nawab of Bengal who ruled from 1706 to 1727. In February 1869, the Nawab began residing in England after leaving Murshidabad. In 1880, the position of Nawab of Bengal was abolished.

Last Nawab of Bengal

The three territories of Bengal, Bihar, and Orissa, which now make up the independent nation of Bangladesh and the Indian states of West Bengal, Bihar, and Orissa, were de facto ruled independently by the Nawab of Bengal in the early 18th century.

The Nawabs had their headquarters in Murshidabad, which was in the middle of Bengal, Bihar, and Odisha. The first Nawab was their leader, a former prime minister. In Mughal India, the Nawab of Bengal was the dynastic ruler of Bengal Subah.

Emperor Aurangzeb removed Azim-us-Shan from Bengal. Bengal’s de facto ruler was provincial premier Murshid Quli Khan when the viceroy left. He merged the diwan & subedar positions in an administrative coup.

  • He came to Bombay in October 1880 and defended his case against the government’s directives.
  • However, because the matter was still pending, the Nawab relinquished his styles and titles, abdicating in favor of his oldest son on November 1, 1880.
