The Full Form of DDMA is District Disaster Management Authority. It is responsible for continuous planning, coordinating, organizing, and implementing measures that are required for the prevention as well as mitigation of disasters. DDMA was created after the passing of the Disaster Management Act of 2005. According to this Act, apart from the National Disaster Management Authority, all states should have their own State Disaster Management Authorities known as SDMAs.

DDMA stands for District Disaster Management Authority. It is headed by the Collector District Magistrate or the Deputy Commissioner of the district. The body acts as the district planning, coordinating & implementing body for Disaster Management.

The DDMA was created due to sub-section 1 of Section 25 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, which states that all states must have their own disaster management authorities at the district level as well.

  • DDMA takes all actions for the purpose of Disaster Management in the district according to the guidelines given by the National Authority and State Authorities.
  • Apart from that, they spread awareness of Disaster Management, training, mock drill, etc.
