The First Indian to receive the Nobel Prize was poet Rabindranath Tagore. He was felicitated with the Nobel Prize in 1913 for Literature to recognize his excellent work in Geetanjali. Rabindranath Tagore also composed national anthems for India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh. Tagore was also known as ‘Gurudev’. He also founded Santiniketan, that later on went on to be known as Vishwabharti University.

Rabindranath Thakur, or Tagore, was the first Nobel Prize winner in India. He was awarded this award in 1913 for his contribution to the field of literature for his poem called Geetanjali. Sadhana and Geetanjali are two of his very famous literary works. But that’s not all. Tagore also contributed heavily to Bengali literature and introduced new prose and verse writing. He even composed the national anthems for India as well as Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh.
