Who is the President of India?

The President of India is Smt. Draupadi Murmu. She is the 15th President to take over from Kovind on 25 July 2022. She is the first person to represent the tribal community and the second woman president after Pratibha Patil. Mrs. Draupadi Murmu belongs to Bharatiya Janata Party and hails from Rairangpur in the Mayurbhanj district of Odisha. She was born on 20 June 1958.

President of India

The position of president was established on 26 January 1950, when India became a republic after gaining independence on 15 August 1947, when its constitution took effect.

The legislative assemblies of each of India’s states and territories, as well as both houses of the Indian Parliament, which were all chosen directly by the people, are used to elect the president in an indirect manner.

Facts about Current President of India

Smt Draupadi Murmu was married to Shyam Charam Murmu, who later died. Her two sons also passed away.
Initially, she became the Councillor of the Rairangpur Nagar Panchayat.
In 2000, she became the Chairperson of the Panchayat.
She also served as the National Vice-President of BJP Scheduled tribes Morcha.
She fought the Presidential election as the NDA’s Presidential Candidate against Shri Yashwant Sinha of the Joint Opposition’s nominee and won the election by a comfortable margin.
With a few exceptions, Article 53 of the Indian Constitution states that the President may exercise their powers directly or through a subordinate authority.
In practice, however, the prime minister, a subordinate authority exercises all of the president’s executive powers while receiving advice from the Cabinet Ministers.
