The Northernmost Point of India is called Indira Col and it is located in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. It has a namesake mountain range. It is situated at an elevation of 5,764 meters above sea level and is located in the Siachen Muztagh which is further located in the Karakoram Range. The majority of reference books list Kaffeklubben Island, which is north of Greenland, as the northernmost point on earth.
Northernmost Point of India
It is close to the triangular region of India, Pakistan, and China, straddling the border between the Chinese-controlled Trans-Karakoram Tract and the Indian-controlled Siachen Glacier (both in the disputed Kashmir region).
Near the pass, the India-Pakistan Actual Ground Position Line (AGPL) in the Siachen region comes to an end. The northernmost point of India is not the only Indira Col in that region. In fact, an eastern and a western Col are present in this region. Not many people are aware of this fact.
- There are territorial disputes on each side of Indira Col. Both Pakistan and India claim the region to the south of the Indira Col West.
- The Trans-Karakoram Tract, which China controls because of a 1963 border agreement with Pakistan, is located north of Indira Col West and is claimed by India.
