What is the Article 38?

Article 38 of the Indian Constitution demands a state facilitate the welfare of the people by assuring a social order. On November 19, 1948, the Constituent Assembly discussed Draft Article 30. It instructed the State to pursue social change in order to advance Indian welfare.

Article 38 of the Indian Constitution
The Draft Article was approved by the Assembly without any changes. There are two provisions included under Article 38, which are as follows-
- the State shall aspire to encourage the welfare of the people by protecting as effectively as it may preserve a social order in which social, economic, justice, and political shall inform all the associations of the nationwide life.
- the Indian State shall strive to lower the inequalities in income and attempt to eliminate disparities in social status, facilities, and opportunities, among people and groups of communities living in separate areas or employed in diverse occupations.
Article 38 in Hindi
Article 38, meaning in Hindi for the two provisions, is listed below.
38(१) राज्य एक सामाजिक व्यवस्था को हानि न करने वाला और हिफाजत करके लोगों के कल्याण को बढ़ावा देने का कोशिश करेगा, जिसमें सामाजिक, राजस्व सम्बन्धी और राजनीतिक न्याय, राष्ट्रीय जीवन की सभी संस्थाओं को बताया करेगा।
38(२) राज्य, विशेष रूप से, आय में असमानताओं को कम करने का प्रयास करेगा, और न केवल व्यक्तियों के बीच, बल्कि अलग-अलग क्षेत्रों में रहने वाले या विभिन्न व्यापार में लगे लोगों के समूहों के बीच भी स्थिति, सहूलियत और अवसरों में असमानताओं को खतम करने का प्रयास करेगा।
