Who wrote the Original Draft of the Preamble?

Pandit Nehru wrote the original draft of the Preamble. It is based on the “Objectives Resolution” proposed and moved by Pandit Nehru and adopted by the Constituent Assembly. It was moved by Nehru on December 13, 1946, and accepted by the Constituent Assembly on January 22, 1947.

It is an affirmation, an unwavering resolve, a pledge, a commitment, and a dedication for all of us. The Preamble of the Constitution accurately reflects the ideal expressed in the resolution. “It was indeed a way of life which recognizes equality, liberty, and fraternity as principles of life“, and which cannot be separated from each other. Liberty will not be separated from equality; equality will not be separated from freedom.

Fraternity and liberty will not be divorced from one another. Freedom would result in the domination of the few over the many if equality did not exist. Without freedom, equality would stifle individual initiative.

Liberty and equality could not develop into the normal course of events without fraternity, B.R. Ambedkar said.
There was a proposal to rename India the “Union of Indian Socialist Republics” while the Constituent Assembly was discussing the Preamble, but the other members were unpersuaded.
When the government of Indira Gandhi pushed changes to the 42nd Amendment to the Constitution, the Preamble was altered on December 18, 1976.
The words “socialist” and “secular” were added between the words “sovereign” and “democratic,” and the phrase “unity of the nation” was changed to “unity and integrity of the nation.”
