In 1951, Anna Rajam Malhotra became the first woman IAS officer in India. She was also India’s first female secretary, born in Niranam, Pathanamthitta. Not only that, but she was the second Indian woman to pass the civil services exam. In 1951, Anna Rajam joined the IAS and married R. N. Malhotra, one of his batch members. Anna Malhotra served under then Chief Minister C. Rajagopalachari and at the centre as an IAS officer from 1951-2018.
