What is the minimum age of Lok Sabha Members?

The minimum age of Lok Sabha members is 25 years. The members should not be less than 25 years as of the date nomination papers are scrutinised. A Member of Parliament in the Lok Sabha is the people’s representative in the Lok Sabha, India’s lower house of Parliament. Members of the Lok Sabha are chosen directly through adult voting.

Minimum Age of Lok Sabha Members

The Parliament of India is bicameral with two chambers; Rajya Sabha (Upper House, i.e., Council of States) and Lok Sabha (Lower House, i.e., House of the People). According to Article 84 of the Constitution, a person is eligible to be a member of Parliament provided that:

He is a citizen of India.
Should have completed 30 years in the case of Rajya Sabha and 25 years in the case of Lok Sabha.

Qualification of Lok Sabha

A person must fulfilll all the following conditions to become a member of the Lok Sabha:

Must be an Indian citizen.
Must be at least 25 years old.
Must be a registered voter in any Indian Parliamentary constituency.
For his/her nomination, a candidate of a recognised political party needs one proposer from his constituency.
A candidate must have ten proposers in order to run.

A person wouldn’t be qualified to serve in the Lok Sabha if they:

Holds any profit position under the Indian government (other than an office authorized by the Parliament of India by law).
He is bankrupt and mentally unbalanced.
He is no longer an Indian citizen.
He is thus disqualified by any law passed by the Parliament of India.
He is thus disqualified for defection.
