What is Article 245 of the Indian Constitution?

The scope of the laws passed by Parliament and state legislatures is covered under Article 245 of the Indian Constitution. It has a provision for the Extent of laws made by Parliament and by the Legislatures of States. It grants the legislative body the authority to enact laws as well as the authority to amend them.

On June 13th, 1949, a discussion of Draft Article 216 (Article 245, Constitution of India, 1950) took place. It was adopted on the same date. There was not much debate on the Article 245 of the Indian Constitution. It specified the respective territorial reach of laws passed by the State and Parliamentary legislatures.
The discussion that happened around the article can be summarised into the two following points.
(1) The Legislature of a State may pass laws for the entirety or any portion of the State, subject to the provisions of this Constitution, and Parliament may pass laws for the entirety or any portion of the Indian subcontinent.
(2) The argument that a law passed by Parliament would have extra-territorial effects is not admissible.
