The British conquest of Bengal began with the Battle of Plassey in 1757. After establishing themselves as traders in India, the British wanted political control over the country. And this happened after they won control of Bengal. The Plassey (or Palashi) region of West Bengal, to the east of the Bhagirathi River, was the site of the 1757 Battle of Plassey.

Beginning of the British Conquest of Bengal

The last independent Nawab of Bengal, Siraj-ud-Daulah, and his French allies were confronted by troops of the British East India Company under the command of Robert Clive. This was called the Battle of Plassey which became a turning point in the history of Bengal and India.

In the battle, the English troops destroyed the Nawab of Bengal and gained influence over the state.
The victory over Bengal was made possible because the commander-in-chief of the Nawab called Mir Jafar betrayed him and helped the British win the Battle of Plassey.
At the conclusion of the Battle of Plassey in 1757, the British invasion took complete control of the city.
When the armies of the English East India Company overthrew Siraj-ud-Daulah, the Nawab of Bengal, the beginning of British political dominance over India can be traced.
The conflict gave the company control over Bengal.
