Roots of English: (Age - Act of , Result of)

Today we are sharing the 62nd Part of our series, "Roots of English". With the help of this, you can improve your vocabulary in a very easy way. Also, the images attached helps to memorize a word for a longer time, so let's go through it now!

 

Root Word for Today: Age

Today we have taken 'Age' as a ROOT which has various meanings: ACT OF, STATE OF, FUNCTION, RESULT OF.

Now with the help of this one root, you can come out with the conclusion of several other English words. Such as-

1) Carnage - (car-nage)  -the act of killing a large number of people.

Usage - We banned our children from watching this movie because of the violence and carnage it contained.
 
2) Outrage:- (out-rage) - an extremely strong act of anger, shock, or indignation.

UsageOutrage over the recent election resulted in many millions of people rioting in the streets in order for people to hear their point.

3) Salvage:- (sal-vage) - the act of rescue of a wrecked or disabled ship or its cargo from the loss at sea.

4) Envisage:- (en-vi-sagee) - state of forming a mental picture of (something not yet existing or known).

5) Pillage:- (pi-lage) -   the action of robbing a place or property, especially in war.

6) Visage:- (vi-sage) - the manifestation, image, or aspect of something/the facial appearance of an individual or animal

Usage - After the blind sculptor touched her daughter’s face, she was able to perfectly create her child’s visage in clay.

7) Assuagement:- (as-uage-ment) -  the act of  soothing or mollifying

Usage - When we fall in love we imagine we have found an ultimate assuagement of loneliness.
