WB SET Eligibility Criteria 2023

Candidates who have cleared the Master's Degree with 55% of marks from a UGC-recognized university or college are eligible for the WB SET Exam. There are no criteria for age limit, and relaxation is applied for reserved categories.

Every year WBCSC conducts a state-level examination to offer the job role of Assistant Professor in a state-owned college or university to knowledgeable candidates. For that, applicants must ensure they fulfil the WB SET eligibility 2023. It includes a few important points mentioned below that you check.

Candidates must take the WB SET solely on the topic of their Post Graduation. If a candidate's topic is not on the list of WBSET subjects, they may apply for the UGC NET, which is held twice a year.

WB SET Age Limit 2023

Candidates of any age with a Master's degree from a recognized university can apply to appear in the exam. It means there is no bar on the WB SET age limit, allowing applicants to appear in the exam without worrying about several attempts. If they get shortlisted for the next round, the applicant will be appointed Assistant Professor. For that, they should clearly know the WB SET Syllabus of Paper-1 & Paper-2.

WB SET Qualification 2023

There is no relaxation in educational requirements to appear in the WB SET exam, and every candidate should have a master's degree from any valid university by UGC. Apart from this, here are some points of eligibility criteria.

  • For General and EWS candidates, a master's degree with 55% marks from Universities/Institutions recognized by UGC is compulsory to be eligible for this exam.
  • According to WB SET exam eligibility, the SC/ST/OBC/Transgender category will be considered eligible if they have a 50% score in PG.
  • Candidates can only apply for the subject of their master's degree, and they can choose their topic when using it for the West Bengal State Eligibility Test.
  • If a candidate's subject is not included in the subject list, the candidate may appear on the UGC NET/Joint CSIR-UGC test held twice a year. Make sure you have a clear understanding of the WB SET exam pattern.
  • Appearing post-graduation candidates waiting for the qualifying exam's results are also eligible for the WB SET exam 2023.
  • The score will be valid for the next 2 years; in that duration, appearing candidates must submit their Post Graduation results.

WB SET Eligibility Exemption 2023

According to WB SET eligibility 2023, few applicants will get the relaxation to appear in the Maharashtra State Eligibility Test. To appear in this state-level entrance exam, candidates must be eligible for it, and some applicants may get an exemption if they fall into any point mentioned below.

  • A relaxation of 5% in the minimum marks required will be provided to SC/ST/OBC/Transgender candidates. 
  • Degree holders with a PhD who completed the master's examination before September 19, 1991, will get a 5% relaxation under WB SET eligibility exemption 2023. 
  • The candidates who have passed the UGC/CSIR JRF examination before 1989 are also exempted from appearing in NET/SET.
  • The candidates who have cleared the State Eligibility Test (SET) accredited by UGC for eligibility for Assistant Professor held before June 1, 2002, are eligible to apply for Assistant Professor anywhere in India.
  • For SET held from June 1, 2002, onwards, the qualified candidates are eligible to apply for the post of Assistant Professor only in the state from where they have cleared their SET.

  • Candidates who have cleared the Master's Degree with 55% of marks from a UGC-recognized university or college are eligible for the WB SET Exam. There are no criteria for age limit, and relaxation is applied for reserved categories.

  • There are mainly two points of WB SET exam eligibility: age limit and education qualification. Candidates with a Master’s degree in any subject from a recognized university by UGC can apply to appear in the West Bengal State Eligibility Test (WB SET 2023). Also, there is no fixed age limit to appear in the exam.

  • Apart from reserved category applicants, below-pointed applicants will come under WB SET eligibility exemption.

    • Candidates with a PhD degree completed their Master’s degree by 19 Sept 1991.
    • Candidates who passed CSIR/UGC JRF exam before 1989 will be exempted from appearing for WB SET 2023.
