Tip to Prepare NDA Geography Syllabus

Let us now have a look at the preparation tips and strategies for the NDA Geography syllabus:

  • Learn about the water bodies of India. This includes lakes, rivers, geysers, hot water springs, surrounding ocean bodies and seas, etc.
  • Also learn about the natural physical structures of India, such as the Himalayan mountain ranges, the Aravalli Range, the Western Ghats, the Deccan Plateau, the Tibetan Plateau, etc.
  • Memorize the number of states in India, along with their surrounding states, capital cities, main rivers, tributaries, etc. The list given below can be used for reference.
  • In addition to remembering states and their capitals, remember the names and basic details of those states that were newly formed or renamed in the past few years.
For instance, Telangana was formed in the year 2014 and Orissa was renamed Odisha in 2011.
  • Be well versed about the different oceans in the world (Atlantic Ocean, Arctic Ocean, Pacific Ocean, Indian Ocean, and the Southern Ocean) and the countries or continents situated nearby.
  • The questions asked in this section are purely based on the syllabus from NCERT Class IX to XII. So, get your hands on your old-school books. However, if you don’t have access to those books, you can use other general knowledge books like Lucent’s General Knowledge.
  • Competitive exams usually test the overall knowledge of a candidate and do not go in-depth into a particular topic. So, stick to simple and straightforward facts and avoid spending a lot of time on memorizing everything about a particular topic.
  • Use a good atlas. Whenever you are reading about state boundaries, land masses, oceans, mountains, etc. have an atlas beside you and keep locating the place that you’ve just read about. This will help retain information as you are using the method of visual learning, rather than just memorizing facts continuously. Doing this daily for about 15-20 minutes is more than enough for better retention.
  • Economic activities related to agriculture and industries should be prepared from a geographic perspective. In other words, learn how the geography of a region (vegetation, distribution of water bodies, quantity, quality, type of soil, temperature, etc.) affects its economy.
