The GATE exam 2024 will be designed to test the Synthesis, Recall, Analysis, Comprehension & Application abilities of students. The General Aptitude section of the GATE exam is designed to test the candidate's grip on the English language, along with numerical and logical reasoning skills.

What is a General Aptitude?

General Aptitude in the GATE exam is designed to test the mental aptitude of students. It tests the comprehensive skills, logical reasoning skills as well as numerical abilities of students which are not directly taught in the courses of their expertise.

General Aptitude in GATE is one of the important subjects where students can score 100% marks and easily boost their overall ranking in the GATE exam. GATE General Aptitude paper carries 15 marks and the syllabus remains the same for all the branches of the GATE exam.

General Aptitude Topics for GATE

There are 4 major topics covered in the General Aptitude exam of GATE. So in GATE 2024 for all branches, the question paper will be designed in accordance with their four topics only. The four major topics of the GATE General Aptitude paper are:

  1. Verbal Aptitude
  2. Quantitative Aptitude
  3. Analytical Aptitude
  4. Spatial Aptitude

General Aptitude for GATE Syllabus 2024

The syllabus for General Aptitude for GATE 2024 will be the same for all the branches of the GATE exam. All of the papers are designed specifically to test the abilities of the student with the same level of difficulty of the General Aptitude exam throughout. The General Aptitude for GATE syllabus 2024 is:

  • Verbal Aptitude

Basic English grammar: tenses, articles, adjectives, prepositions, conjunctions, verb-noun agreement, and other parts of speech.
Basic vocabulary: words, idioms, and phrases in context.
Reading and comprehension Narrative sequencing.

  • Quantitative Aptitude
    Data interpretation: data graphs (bar graphs, pie charts, and other graphs representing data), 2- and 3-dimensional plots, maps, and tables.
    Numerical computation and estimation: ratios, percentages, powers, exponents and logarithms, permutations and combinations, and series. Mensuration and geometry Elementary statistics and probability.
  • Analytical Aptitude
    • Logic: deduction and induction, Analogy, Numerical relations, and reasoning
  • Spatial Aptitude
    Transformation of shapes: translation, rotation, scaling, mirroring, assembling, and grouping Paper folding, cutting, and patterns in 2 and 3 dimensions
