What is GATE Aptitude Syllabus?
GATE Aptitude syllabus is the list of important topics released by the organizing committee. It covers all topics and subjects on which the questions in the GATE exam will be based on. In the GATE General Aptitude syllabus 2023, there are 4 major sections. All these sections are designed to test different aspects of the candidate's knowledge apart from course-related knowledge. The Verbal Aptitude section of the GATE Aptitude syllabus is designed to check the verbal and grammatical knowledge of the candidate. The questions are typically in the form of Spotting Error, Sentence, Completion, Reading Comprehension, and Spotting Error. GATE Aptitude Syllabus Analytical Aptitude
The analytical Aptitude section of the GATE General Aptitude syllabus tests the analytical and comprehensive knowledge of the candidates. This section has three chapters that individually target the logical, analogical, and reasoning knowledge of the candidates. The chapters covered in the Analytical Aptitude are:
- Logic– Induction & Deduction
- Analogy
- Number relations & reasoning.
GATE Aptitude Syllabus Spatial Aptitude
The spatial aptitude section of the GATE General Aptitude syllabus is designed to check the visualization and pattern recognition capabilities of the candidates. This section of the GATE Aptitude Syllabus has the following topics of Shape transformation.

GATE Aptitude Syllabus Numerical Aptitude
The last section of the GATE Aptitude syllabus is Numerical Aptitude. This is an important section for the exam. Numerical Aptitude is a lengthy section and covers 7 major topics. Candidates are suggested to practice this section with previous year's question papers and mock tests available online. The topics covered in the Numerical Aptitude section are mentioned below.
- Elementary statistics & probability
- Geometry
- Data interpretation
- Data- Graphs (bar graph, histogram, pie chart, and other data graphs), 2- and 3- dimensional plots, Maps, and Tables
- Mensuration
- Numerical computation & estimation- Powers, Series, Exponents, Percentages, Permutations, Combinations, Ratios, and Logarithms
- Numerical reasoning
Subject-wise Weightage GATE Aptitude Syllabus 2023
There won't be any major changes in the GATE Aptitude syllabus 2023 from the previous year's syllabus. The weightage of the General Aptitude is also exactly the same as that of the previous year. The main focus of the GATE exam was to assess the candidates’ knowledge in core subjects and therefore have 85% weightage with 55 questions. The remaining ten questions are asked from General Aptitude (GA) topics with 15% weightage. This is one aspect of the GATE examination common to all disciplines and sometimes can be the differentiator between a successful and an unsuccessful candidate.
With proper guidance, preparation, and practice, candidates can score fifteen out of fifteen marks in the General Aptitude section.
