UPSC ESE EE Stages of Selection

The UPSC selects candidates on through three stages of the examination process as mentioned below:

  • ESE EE Preliminary Examination
  • ESE EE Mains Examination
  • ESE EE Personality Test/Interview

The Prelims and Mains are offline examinations and you have to clear each stage to be eligible to appear for the Interview for ESE Electrical Engineering exam. The ESE Prelims Paper will be objective paper while the Mains will be descriptive in nature. ESE IES Electrical Selection Process 2023 For Prelims

The first stage of the IES Selection Proccess 2023 for Electrical Engineering is the Prelims which has two papers and is conducted in offline mode only.

  • The Exam Paper for the ESE EE will be set in English Language only. 
  • Both papers of the ESE EE have objective multiple-choice questions.
  • The total mark for the UPSC ESE EE exam for Prelims is 500 marks with a duration of 5 Hours.
  • There is a negative marking of ⅓ mark for every incorrect answer by you

ESE IES Electrical Selection Process 2023 For Mains

All the candidates who will obtain the minimum cutoff marks in the ESE IES Prelims Exam will be called for the Mains Exam, the second stage of the selection process.

  • Unlike the ESE EE Prelims Exam, the Mains Exam will be Conventional/Descriptive, with questions only set in English.
  • You must ensure that your handwriting is legible. Otherwise, UPSC has the right to deduct up to 5% of the total marks.
  • The ESE EE Mains Exam will have two papers each of 300 marks that will be based on the syllabus.
  • The duration of the Mains Exam is 6 hours, with each paper of 3 hours.

ESE EE Selection Process for Personality Test

Candidates who will obtain the cutoff in the Prelims and Mains exam will appear for the last round of the IES Selection Process 2023 for Electrical Engineering. Candidates need to fill out the DAF for the ESE EE Personality Test before appearing for the Interview. In the DAF process, you must upload all the relevant documents such as educational certificates, caste certificates, etc. 

The ESE EE Personality Test is for a total of 200 marks.

IES Selection Process 2023 for Electrical Engineering- Final Selection

The final selection for the ESE EE 2022 exam will be made by calculating the marks obtained by you in all three stages, i.e. Prelims, Mains, and Personality Test. Thus, candidates will be marked out of 1300, combining the scores of Stage I+II+III.

ESE Electrical Engineering Medical Test

All the candidates who qualify for all the stages of the IES Selection Process 2023 for Electrical Engineering will have to undergo a medical exam that the Railway Board will conduct. Candidates must be medically fit to work in the ESE IES Electrical Engineering service.
