The transformation ratio of a step-up transformer is-

1. Greater than one.
2. Less than one.
3. Less than one and sometimes greater than one.
4. Greater than one, sometimes less than one.

## For step-up transformer value of transformation ratio K is greater than one.

Solution

Transformer transformation ratio can be given as K= E2/E1T2/T1

E1= EMF induced in the primary winding

E2= EMF induced in the secondary winding = K.E1

T1= number of turns on primary winding

T2= number of turns on secondary winding = K.T1

Voltage per turn on primary winding E1/T1

Voltage per turn on secondary winding E2/T2K.E1/K.T1E1/T1

As from above relations we can conclude that voltage per turn on both primary and secondary winding are same. So, number of turns on either winding will decide the induced EMF magnitude

For a step-up transformer primary winding will be low voltage winding, that means there will be a smaller number of turns on primary winding compared to the secondary winding which is high voltage winding.

So, for a step-up transformer value of transformation ratio K is greater than one.
