Negative Marking Scheme

Two types of MCQs:

  • MCQs - 1 mark gained for each correct answer; every wrong answer will get 1/3 mark deducted.

  • MCQs - 2 marks gained for each correct answer; every wrong answer will get 2/3 marks deducted. There is no negative marking for Numerical Answer Type questions.

  • NO negative marking was included for MSQ & NAT.

GATE JRF 2023 Question Paper Pattern

The aspirants looking forward to appearing in the CSIR GATE JRF Exam 2023 must know the question paper pattern before appearing for the examination. Check the important information given below to acknowledge every important detail on the question paper pattern for the CSIR GATE JRF exam.

Life Science (XL) Paper

  • The question paper consists of General Aptitude (GA) + Chemistry (Compulsory) sections along with any two optional Sections that include Botany, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Food Technology, and Zoology.
  • There will be 10 Questions from General Aptitude and 55 subject-based questions. Hence there will be 65 questions in total.
  • The General Aptitude (Section A) consists of 5 questions containing 1 mark and the rest of 5 questions containing 2 Marks.
  • The Chemistry (Compulsory Section) contains 9 questions containing 1 mark each and the rest 8 questions with 2 marks each (Only two optional sections can be answered at a time).
  • The optional sections (Biochemistry, Microbiology, Botany, Food Technology, Zoology) contain 19 questions with a total of 30 marks.
  • For every question with 1 mark, the negative marking will be 1/3 mark, whereas questions with 2 marks will have the negative marks of 2/3 marks.
  • The question paper will be of a total of 100 Marks.

Physical Science Paper

  • The question paper consists of 10 Questions from General Aptitude and 55 questions based on the subject.
  • The General Aptitude (Section A) consists of 5 questions containing 1 mark and the rest of 5 questions containing 2 Marks.
  • The candidates must attempt section A. 
  • For every question with 1 mark, the negative marking will be 1/3 mark, whereas questions with 2 marks will have the negative marks of 2/3 marks.

The question paper consists of 10 Questions from General Aptitude and 55 questions based on the subject.

  • The General Aptitude (Section A) consists of 5 questions containing 1 mark and the rest of 5 questions containing 2 Marks.
  • The candidates must attempt section A. 
  • For every question carrying 1 mark, the negative marking will be 1/3 mark, whereas questions carrying 2 marks will have the negative marks of 2/3 mark.
