CSIR GATE JRF Exam is a computer-based test consisting of two papers. Both of the papers comprise multiple-choice questions. For candidates who have passed the GATE exam and are working in CSIR laboratories, the EMR Division of CSIR offers JRF GATE fellowships. GATE JRF, also known as CSIR Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) - GATE, is an initiative intended at GATE qualified engineering graduates and GPAT-qualified pharmaceutical graduates who want to pursue research through an appropriate Ph.D. program in AcSIR or any other institution to encourage academic quality in CSIR labs and develop high-level science.
The CSIR is an autonomous body under the Government of India that regulates the whole JRF fellowship program through GATE. The number of JRF-GATE fellowships will not exceed 120 in a year. The fellowship is tenable only in CSIR and its laboratories in India. The laboratory participating in the M.Tech-PhD program of AcSIR was awarded 5 fellowships under the CSIR JRF GATE scheme. There is no minimum age limit for the JRF GATE fellowship. The upper age limit for the JRF GATE exam is 28 years. The candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes/ Scheduled Tribes, women, and physically handicapped are entitled to age relaxation of up to 5 years. The OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) candidates have an age relaxation of 3 years.

Interested candidates must check their education qualifications for the JRF GATE exam before filling out the application form. The educational qualification is a prerequisite for the application form. If the candidate doesn’t satisfy the criteria, his candidature will be rejected.
Candidates with ME/ M. Tech degrees and candidates eligible for CSIR SRF are not eligible for the JRF GATE fellowship.
Authorities have released the CSIR JRF GATE application form on August 30, 2022, on the official website. The application window ended on October 16, 2022. For candidates to make changes to their application form, the correction window had been opened from 08th to 14th November 2022. Those who passed the GATE 2023 may apply for the CSIR JRF GATE interview. Candidates will be chosen based on how well they perform in interviews conducted by various CSIR laboratories committees that have been duly appointed by the Director. After the result is released, candidates must submit an application for an interview along with all required supporting documentation, including a GATE/GPAT scorecard, the candidate's biodata, a mark sheet, a caste certificate, and a date of birth certificate.

The number of fellowships awarded through JRF-CSIR must not exceed 120. If the number of JRF GATE is less than 120, the number of remaining fellowships may be passed on to other laboratories during the next year. The 17 CSIR laboratories given above can award a maximum of 5 fellowships under the CSIR JRF GATE scheme.
The selection of JRF-GATE will be based on the interview and selection procedure guidelines of advertising. The interview will be conducted by a committee duly constituted by the Director. The recommended candidates’ documents will be forwarded to Hrad, HRDG, with all necessary documents (GATE/GPAT scorecard, copy of the notification, selection proceedings, resume, mark sheets, DoB certificate, Caste certificate, etc.). CSIR-HRDG will issue a formal award letter after scrutinizing and verifying the relevant documents.
The selected candidates will get a JRF GATE stipend of INR 31,000/- per month for the first two years to continue their research work. In addition, an annual contingency grant of INR 20,000 per fellow is provided to the Institution/ University. The tenure of the fellowship is 2 years only. Therefore, the student who joins on the 1st day of this month will complete their tenure on the last day of the previous month 2 years later.
Authorities released the GATE JRF 2023 admit card on its official website on 03 January 2023. By login into their registered accounts, candidates can download their hall ticket card for the exam. It should be noted that the CSIR GATE JRF admit card must be carried to the specified exam location.
