The Role of Citizens in a Democracy primarily includes adhering to the laws and regulations established by the government in order to properly govern the country. In a democracy, it takes both the government and the citizens’ efforts to keep the peace and allow the country to grow and develop. Therefore, citizen participation in a democracy is critical to its advancement.

Citizens of democracy should therefore be aware of their roles and responsibilities towards their country. A few important roles of citizens in a democracy are as follows:

  • Need to cooperate with the system and abide by the rules and regulations put forth by the government.
  • Should follow every law and tend not to break any under any circumstances.
  • They should be aware of their rights as well as their responsibilities to the nation.
  • Make proper use of their freedom of speech and expression, and may protest in the aftermath of some wrongdoing on the part of the government.
  • Should be aware of the government’s policies.
  • Should act civilly and respect the rights and interests of others.
