Presence of Globule and Nucule
The family Characeae contains the genus Chara, which is a charophyte green algae. They have stem- and leaf-like structures, which give them the appearance of being multicellular and resembling land plants. They grow submerged and attached to the muddy bottom in freshwater, especially in limestone regions of the northern temperate zone. They avoid waters with mosquito larvae because they prefer less oxygenated, hard water.
- Chara is a freshwater, green alga that can be discovered submerged in shallow ponds, tanks, lakes, and slow-moving water.
- It is primarily found in hard fresh water, which is low in oxygen and high in calcium and organic matter.

Chara Structure

It is large, spherical, red or yellow in structure. It is made up of 8 curved shield cells, 8 elongated manubrial cells, 8 centrally located primary capitulum cells, and 48 secondary capitulum cells.

It is a large, green, oval structure with a short stalk. The corona of the nucule is formed by the five upper-tier cells from coronary cells. It is surrounded by five tube cells. It contains a large amount of starch and oil.
