The father of Green Revolution in India is M.S Swaminathan. His full name is Mankombu Sambasivan Swaminathan. He is a geneticist who is known for his contributions to India’s Green Revolution. He has produced high-yielding wheat, brought food self-sufficiency to India, and promoted sustainable development which he called, the evergreen revolution.

Father of Green Revolution in India
Mankombu Sambasivan Swaminathan was born on August 7th, 1925 in Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu. He is a renowned geneticist and agricultural scientist who revolutionised Indian agriculture through the Green Revolution.
The term Green Revolution describes a set of actions and technological transfers to the agricultural industry that led to a significant increase in farm production. The actions performed included creating high-yield grain types, employing fertilisers and insecticides, creating crops resistant to pests, using hybrid seeds with improved genetics, and so on.
The green revolution wasn’t just used in India; it was also implemented in many other developing nations, although India saw the greatest success.
- M.S Swaminathan was awarded the Albert Einstein World Award of Science, Padma Shri, and Padma Bhushan, and he also holds 50 honorary Doctorate degrees.
