Factors that Affect Crop Production

Factors affecting crop production are of two types, internal and external. Intense rain following drought can increase the likelihood of flooding, creating conditions that are conducive to fungal infections of leaves, roots, and tuber crops. Internal factors are related to the genetic structure of plants and are less affected by environmental factors. It includes:

  • Chemical composition of grains
  • Quality of grains
  • Early maturity
  • High yielding ability
  • Drought, flood, and salinity tolerance
  • Resistance to lodging
  • Tolerance to insect pests and diseases
  • Quality of straw
