The Full Form of UR and EWS is Unreserved category and Economically Weaker Sections, respectively. In the context of reservations, these abbreviations represent various sections or categories in our country. You must have come across the abbreviations UR and EWS quite frequently while filling out government forms in India. The reservation system is crucial in improving the social and economic conditions of the country’s backward communities. Dr BR Ambedkar proposed the concept to ensure equal representation for all Indians regardless of caste or financial status.

Full Form of UR
UR full form is the Unreserved category that refers to the general class of people. The UR category describes the citizens who don’t come under the SC, ST, and OBC quotas. Hence, this is an open category that applies to every Indian citizen.
The main difference between the UR Category and the General Category is that while there are some Reserved Candidates or Persons in the General Category, the Unreserved Category is completely unreserved and does not receive any government-provided reservations in the areas of education, government institutions, etc.
Full Form of EWS
EWS category refers to the economically weaker sections of society that are in direct need of monetary assistance from the government. The EWS is a subdivision of the UR category and describes families who have an annual income below Rs 8 lakhs and whose house value is also below Rs 8 lakh.
The citizens from the SC, ST, and OBC categories don’t fall under the EWS category. It denotes the people who live in extremely poor conditions but not because of their fault. Both these categories don’t fall under the SC, ST and OBC categories. This group includes those who already benefit from reservation but do not fall under the ST, SC, or OBC caste categories.
