The Full Form of DCP is Deputy Commissioner of Police. In metropolitan cities with a Police Commissionerate System, the DCP is the district police chief (Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad). This is the equivalent of the position of Superintendent of Police. It is a senior-level IPS position, which means that an IPS officer is promoted to SP/DCP within 4 to 7 years.

- A person aiming to be a DCP must be an Indian citizen, hold a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university, and be 21 to 32 in age.
