How many IAS Officers are there in India 2022?

India has a total of 4926 Cadre strength for IAS Officers. The Union Public Service Commission directly recruits 3511 IAS officers after conducting the Civil Services examination. The remaining 1,415 IAS officers are promoted through State Civil Services. However, according to the Parliamentary Panel, more than 1500 IAS officers are needed.

Uttar Pradesh and Bihar have the highest number of IAS officers in India, which is 4926. Many candidates in these two states only study for government exams such as the Public Service Commission exams.
- Only 180 candidates from various categories are chosen annually for Indian Administrative Service.
- Not a single candidate can be added to the batch after 180.
- According to reports, this can affect the quality of training provided to the top civil servant of India.
- They get a two years long training at Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA), Uttarakhand.
- Candidates get initial training with IPS candidates, and after three months of join training, IPS candidate reaches Hyderabad for the remaining training.
Some of the most famous IAS Officers in India are Armstrong Pame, Aruna Sundararajan, Durga Shakti Nagpal, Hari Chandana Dasari, and Smita Sabharwal. There is no doubt that being an IAS officer is a dream of many candidates, but it is also true that it is not easy to pass this competitive exam.
